The Bogee Putter
Maker:
Foster Brothers
, Ashbourne Date: 1913
One of the more desirable (to the collector) designs or patents in aluminum clubs, the Bogee putter of 1912-13 with its round shaft turning to a square one when it enters the hosel.
A longnose form to the head, the top is stamped “Foster Bros Ashhbourne”. It has a face with diamond patterm. The sole is sramped with the design registration number, 596418, “The Bogee Putter”, Model Upright”, “!0 ozs 8 drams” (relatively heavy for the various Bogee combinations.
I believe this is an export model as the shaft is stamped “Made by the MacGregor Co, Dayton OH”. It is possible to reshaft an aluminium headed club but it is tricky without damaging the hosel. This club does not appear to have been re-shafted so I assume it was re-sold by MacGregor on the US Market.
The red leather grip is not one of the MacGregor standards so is probably an early replacement.
