Clubmakers Charles Roberts Woolton Born in Hoylake in 1881, Charles Theodore Roberts was one of five golf professionals in the family and was pro at the Woolton club from 1901 until the First World War. He was a sergeant with the 2md/6th Bn King’s Liverpool Regiment and was killed when on a one-day detachment with the Manchester Regiment on reconnaissance on 1 May 1918 when struck by a sniper’s bullet.
